  LGBTQ+ quarter Shinjuku Ni-chome新宿二丁目

  Often called the world’s densest gay quarter — a few hundred small bars in about five blocks around Naka-dori, from exits C7/C8. Most are tiny rooms built around Japanese regulars, and many upper-floor doors are men-only or members-only; the English-friendly bars cluster at street level. Some charge a cover, often including a drink — ask at the door.

  The grown-up half of the Shinjuku night — standing bars, wine counters and long-running kissaten in the lanes around Isetan, a quieter register than Kabukicho a few blocks north. Seated places add a per-person otoshi; standing bars usually don’t. Touts work these streets too, and Shinjuku bans the practice.

No opening hours here — small bars keep their own, and many close without notice. Check before you set off, and ignore anyone on the street offering to take you somewhere.
